Live
Gas Mains Insertion allows a low-pressure cast iron natural gas
main to be economically upgraded to 60psi PE pipe, with minimum
disruption to customers. Ideal for urban locations. The original
low-pressure supply is maintained to customers throughout the project,
until it is time to transfer them to the inserted medium pressure
PE. The transfers proceed at a controlled pace, during regular working
hours to suit labor availability and home access.
- Live
Insertion provides natural gas pressure upgrades and mains replacement
in a single step.
-
There are no royalties to pay, insertion equipment to rent and
no external contracting services required.
-
No capital equipment required and all transfer kits are prepackaged
and disposable.
- Only
a patented, disposable entry gland cartridge and all-weather
foam sectioning kits are required to complete the process.
- The
system offers excellent customer relation benefits as all service
transfers can occur when the customer is available.
- The
project timetable is extremely flexible. It can be stopped and
restarted any time if the crew is required elsewhere.
- Disposable
upgrade kits are available for all PE insertion size combinations.
- Small
number of excavations open at any one time reducing traffic
disruption and minimizing reinstatement costs.
-
Works with stick or coiled PE pipe.
- Live
Insertion is very logical, making learning the process easy.
Even so, PLCS provides in-depth field training for the first
project, backing it with follow up reviews on all aspects of
the process.
-
Live Insertion is widely used throughout Europe under the name
Lyontec, and a number of US utilities already rely on it for
part of their mains replacement program. The process is the
most economical method of mains upgrading without tearing up
the street.
