Entry pit with pushing machine set for 2” PE into 4” cast iron
|
Customers remain on the existing low pressure supply throughout the entire upgrade except for a short interruption when
the service is transferred to the medium pressure PE main. The crew can be pulled off the job at any time and the
completion of an insertion project can be delayed, for weeks if necessary.
There are just three disposable components:
- An Entry Gland allows the PE pipe to enter the cast iron without leakage.
- An Insertion Seal foam kit fills the annular gap between the new PE and the original main to provide a barrier between the inserted section of the main and the rest of the network. They are also used to section the main into those service groups that are to be transferred to the PE in a given day.
- An End Seal foam kit is used to close off the exposed end of the cast iron pipe wherever the new PE main exits.
