MP
Foambag allows rapid emergency response shutdown of natural gas
cast iron and steel mains and services at distribution pressures,
when the area system valves are either unavailable, inoperable or
the sector is too extensive for a full area shutdown.
Shutdowns
are 100% and the main can be sectioned within 30 minutes of foam
injection.
The
system is also used for planned maintenance and mains or service
abandonment projects, where an old main is being replaced with an
upgraded PE system.
All of the work is completed under gas free conditions when used
in conjunction with System-One tapping equipment
- MP
fabric foambags are launched using ALH System-One Tapping equipment
and a special foam bag launch canopy that also provides structural
support in the main for the shutdown.
- Sealant
is injected into the foambags via a pneumatic or hydraulically
activated injection gun.
- Once
the foam swells to fill the foambag, a limited amount oozes out
through the special semi-porous surfaces to roll any fluids, including
water, out of the way. It then combines with any liquid or loose
debris and bonds to the pipe walls.
- This
system provides the fastest and safest shutdown so that the main
can be cut and sectioned within 30 minutes of foam injection
- By
using multiple equipment sets, the system will provide rapid multi-way
shutdown capabilities.
- Two
bags are deployed in each position using a standard "double
block and bleed" procedure ensuring the full shutdown.
The
system can be used with another removable MP shutdown technique,
such as ALH Iris Stop for a planned section-by-section mains replacement
program.
